Kimi Raikkonen Returns To WRC Greece

Kimi Raikkonen will be back to World Rally Championship Greece next week guys, almost two months after he made his last appearance in the series in Jordan, where he finished sixth in his Ice 1 Racing Citroen DS3 WRC.

Since then the ex-Formula One world champion has made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut, finishing 15th at Charlotte, a result he followed up by claiming 27th on his first appearance in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the same venue one week later.
Raikkonen has yet to compete on the Loutraki-based Acropolis Rally and will be braced for a tough test on the punishing gravel stages. He spent today (Wednesday) reacclimatising to the rigours of driving his turbocharged Citroen on gravel roads during a test near Marseille in the south of France where he covered approximately 150 kilometres.
Benoit Nogier, who manages the Citroen Racing Technologies operation, the company responsible for running Raikkonen’s DS3 WRC, spoke to Wrc.com following the test. He said: “We were very happy with his performance in Jordan and he has a good opportunity for Greece. We found a road with a condition as close as possible to Greece and Kimi was quite happy. It will be a tough rally, not necessarily for the drivers but for the cars. The first day is very long with only a remote service but Kimi is not a rookie anymore and will be able to manage this situation.”
Raikkonen, who is co-driven by fellow Finn Kaj Lindstrom, will be anxious to kick start his promising 2011 WRC campaign in Greece after skipping the last two rounds in Italy and Argentina. He had described his performance on the Jordan Rally in mid-April as his best in the series so far and would have equalled his career-best fifth place but for a late puncture.
“The driving has been better and we’re pushing harder now,” Raikkonen was quoted as saying recently. “My only target really is to improve in the WRC.”
The Acropolis Rally will mark the fourth of Raikkonen’s planned 10 appearances in the WRC. He’s currently ninth in the drivers’ standings on 18 points. Ice 1 Racing is sixth in the manufacturers’ standings with 26 points.

Sprint Cup Series Live Stream Race Nascar Kansas STP 400 June 5, 2011

Watch Live Stream Nascar Sprint Cup

At this race weekend, in a change to qualifying procedure, cars required to qualify on speed in NASCAR's top three divisions -- designated by blue squares on NASCAR's timing and scoring monitors -- no longer will make their individual qualifying runs as a group at the end of a time-trial session, NASCAR confirmed Friday.

The change goes into effect immediately in the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series. The Sprint Cup Series will implement the new procedure next weekend at Pocono.
Under the new format, the go-or-go-home cars will be interspersed with cars from the top 35 in owner points that are guaranteed starting spots. Qualifying order will be set by speeds established in the first practice session, with slowest going out first and fastest qualifying last.
That represents a radical change from a system under which cars required to qualify on speed -- typically some of the slowest cars in the field -- nevertheless made their runs as a group at the end of the session.
NASCAR felt the change was appropriate, given that qualifying order is being set by practice speeds this year, not by lot, as in previous seasons.

Today is the race. For all that went right for Todd Bodine last season in the Camping World Truck Series, about as much has already gone wrong for the reigning series champion in 2011.

Bodine, seeking to become the first driver to claim consecutive Truck titles, finds himself in a huge hole seven races into the season.

The two-time champion has one top-10 finish, has led all of two laps and is a distant 11th in the standings.

Such statistics would have been virtually unfathomable in the preseason for a driver who rolled up 20 top-10s, including four victories, en route to rendering last year's title fight little more than a snooze-fest.

But as Bodine points out, reigning truck champs don't customarily have it easy.

Sprint Cup series back on track this weekend at Kansas Speedway. As the race weekend approaches fans are putting in their bets for which driver will come away with the victory in the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway. Will it be one of the drivers who have previous wins at Kansas or will we see a new winner at the 1.5 mile tri-oval this Sunday?  Since the Speedway opened in 2001, there have been 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup races and seven different Sprint Cup winners.

If we see a new winner this weekend at Kansas Speedway, who could it be?
Surprisingly enough in 30 NASCAR Sprint Cup starts at Kansas Speedway, Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has only three top-five and eight top 10 finishes. Could this be the race where RCR finally gets into victory lane at Kansas Speedway, if so which RCR driver will come out on top?
Which leads us to local favorite, Clint Bowyer who gave RCR their best finish here, second, in 2007 and he could be the driver to get RCR to victory lane for the first time at Kansas Speedway. Bowyer’s season is off to a strong start, he is currently eighth in the point standings. He is a driver fans should keep their eye on for a victory this weekend.
After a third-place finish last year, his best-ever finish at Kansas Speedway, “The Closer” Kevin Harvick could come away with a victory for RCR this weekend. He has already posted three wins this season, and he is a definite contender to dethrone Jimmie Johnson as the NASCAR Sprint Cup champion.
Another first time winner could be another local favorite, Carl Edwards. Edwards has one NASCAR Camping World truck series victory, but is yet to find victory lane in the Sprint Cup series at Kansas. Edwards is leading the points and is definitely a contender to win this weekend.
Fresh off a Nationwide Series victory last weekend at Charlotte, Matt Kenseth could be the next new Sprint Cup winner at Kansas. Kenseth already has two wins this season at Texas and Dover and he will be one of the drivers fans should expect to be fast this weekend at Kansas Speedway.
Or it could be Red Bull driver Kasey Kahne. Kahne has been running strong in recent weeks. Last week at Charlotte, Kahne was leading on the final restart, but fell two laps short running out of fuel. Kahne has already seen victory lane at Kansas in a NASCAR Nationwide Series race, and has won the pole for a Sprint Cup race at Kansas twice. He is familiar with the fast groove around the speedway, and fans should watch for a strong run from Kahne this weekend.
Fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr., came close to ending his losing streak last week at Charlotte, but fell 500-feet short, running out of fuel after leading the field to the white flag. He comes to Kansas sitting fourth in the standings, his best ranking at this point since 2008, his first year with Hendrick Motorsports. Earnhardt Jr. is getting closer and closer to ending his losing streak and his first victory of 2011 could come at Kansas Speedway this weekend.

Nationwide STP 300 Live Stream Chicagoland Speedway, Chicago. Danica Patrick Back To Nascar Nationwide June 4 2011

After Kimi Raikkonen makes headline in last event Charlotte Nationwide, now is time to Danica to show up. Danica Patrick is return to NASCAR this weekend, for a race at Chicagoland Speedway that's part of her limited schedule on the Nationwide Series. It's been 11 weeks since we last saw Patrick in a stock car, at Bristol in March. It will be another month before we see her again, on the high banks at Daytona. With much of her IndyCar schedule clustered in the spring and summer, it will be November before we see her run consecutive Nationwide events in JR Motorsports' No. 7 car.

Which is too bad, because as anyone who witnessed Patrick's historic fourth-place run at Las Vegas on March 5 can attest, she's clearly figuring this stock-car thing out. No question, she still has her hiccups -- her first start at Bristol, for example, which proved a rude awakening -- but Vegas was no fluke. Her lap-after-lap duel with Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne for position inside the top 10 offered further hints of her potential, at least on the kind of intermediate tracks that dominate the circuit. Nearly three months later, we finally get to see if she can build on it.

NASCAR officials announced Tuesday a revision in qualifying procedures for the Nationwide and Truck Series, beginning this weekend.
Instead of separating the qualifying order between teams locked in and those which must qualify on speed, the entire field will be sorted based on practice speeds, from slowest to fastest. Starting this season, locked-in teams were set first in the qualifying order, in the inverse order of their best practice speed, followed by those needing to qualify on time. Before 2011, the qualifying order had been set by a random draw.
According to the NASCAR release, the rules change hopes to "level competition between the slowest and fastest cars and provide more of compelling qualifying session for the fans".

As we mention here in the last post, Casey Stoner again topped the timesheet in the rain- interrupted free practise session 1. The Australian was fastest in the first practice session of the Spanish race weekend, topping the field with a best time of 1’43.918. Simoncelli collected the second quickest time, following Casey by 0.486 seconds. The Italian initially lead the session, but lost the lead time after a short time by a still recovering Casey Stoner. Dani Pedrosa is out of the race weekend because his broken collarbone he suffered at Le Mans.
We hope dry session will treat the rider at the second practise session in this weekend.

This weekend Catalan MotoGP will run without their home star Dani Pedrosa. Following his broken collarbone after Le Mans accident. Based on that story, Race Direction make a meeting with San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli. Below is the statemen from Race Direction.

"The Race Direction composed of Paul Butler, Race Director and IRTA representative, Claude Danis, FIM representative, Javier Alonso, Dorna representative, and Franco Uncini, IRTA Riders Safety delegate today met with San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli. Also present was San Carlo Honda Gresini Team Principal Fausto Gresini.

"The purpose of the meeting was to give all the parties the opportunity to discuss the incident at the French MotoGP in Le Mans that resulted in Marco Simoncelli being penalised with a ride through penalty and to draw a line under it.

"The Race Direction informed Simoncelli that they wished to ensure that he was aware of his mistake and to avoid any repetition in the future. Simoncelli responded that in the interval after the French Grand Prix he had had time for reflection and regretted the statements he had made in the heat of the moment immediately after the Grand Prix. He also recognized that he had made an error of judgment and stated that in future he would try to evaluate situations better and be a little more cautious."

The Le Mans incident came at a bad time for both Simoncelli and Race Direction.

The FP1 prediction, we thought Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner will be at front once again with their great RCV's packages. But Jorge Lorenzo will do his best to keep the "Lorenzo's Land" stay in his home turf.
