My rig, the way I play

On special request from Tys, i guess it's time to cut the cake as nobody dares to post anything about theyre setup yet.. so ill have a go at it.

When i bought the new G25 last year i told the GF i'd be building a seat next after i had seen how "easy" Dion Holzheimer aka SJ_Small_Fryz built his rig with the help of his dad and some lumber. Now looking back i might have made a bit more work of the measurements, but it's not that big of a deal. For me right now this rig is like sitting in a car... and i'm more comfy in here THEN sitting in a REAL car, but still not perfect.(my legs are too long!) Maybe one day ill try a different concept. Now then.. when i had a week off from work i started:

First i went to the scrapyard and got me a seat, i prefered one with a rail so you can slide back and forth, but these scrapyard ppl where lazy and only ripped out the seat itself. To get the rail i'd have to go out by myself with tools to "detach" one.. well.. if there's 4 bolts on that slider.. it means there are 4 nuts on the UNDERSIDE of the car.. without help i thought it almost impossible for a noob to undo the bolts on the side of the middleconsole of a car.. so .. no slider then but a damned nice racingchair (kuipstoeltje).. with only one minor hole in it. Grin

Then it was off to the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) store to get some materials. Shocked
i started with wooden beams 2,70m 3x to get me started (turned out it was enough due to not screwing up the measurements (that much..hehe) and one plank .. 2mtr
i thought i'd get some Bolts 8cm with nuts.. hehe.. to secure some things.. but turned out i only used 4 bolts to secure the seat and it fitted perfectly.. and some screws.
After the DIY i went to my parents to get some equipment (no i dont have an electric drill.. hehe)
I started by making two ski's... mark the holes on the bottom of the chair in the wood and drill two holes per ski to hold the bolts that hold the chair. Now it is important to drill the holes with a wood-drill... AND straight... i found out my handyskills are not that good and the holes came out a bit... ehr.. crooked... but turned out that Two crooked holes do make a right connection! Grin first ski fitted to chair.. the 8cm bolts nearly DIDnt fit, but just enough! second ski fitted.. woohoo! Attached a plank to the end (as the tilted picture shows) that plank is where my G25 pedals are now resting on.. and it's a great handbag to put over yer shoulder as yer carrying it upstairs! Wink
Now for the table i thought the wheel would rest on.. but in my inferior wisdom it turned out differently (and better.. lol) then i thought. I just made four "feet" and two rests, on beam supporting the two rests.... i came up a bit too wide on the measurements. turned out putting the two rests ... ehr.. screwing the rests (tabletop!) to the feet and then fitting them to the ski's ehr... i had a 2 CM gap! doh! me and my measurements! and the table wasn't very .. how you say... ehr.. stable! so to counteract this i made holes in the table's feet, paws near the bottom... then putting the tablepaw to the ski.. and drilling again through the already finished hole to jab the ski a bit.. then drill hole further into ski. when done securing it with a big screw (i was outtof bolts.. and the 8cm ones.. ehr.. where a bit too small for two crossjoined beams.. i think10 or even 12 should do.. lol) ..securing it so it DOESN"T MOVE.. if it moves.. all other holes i would drill would become instantly obsolete.. so i repeated the program the other 3 times.
Because of the 2cm gap i had earlier and securing the "table" to the ski's i had managed to close the gap, putting pressure on the table a bit, but due to that bit of pressure the "wonkyness" of the table was gone.... WAAYYYHAAAY! but i had a testsit.. more about that in the next line..
then i dragged the two pieces i now had upstairs for a meeting with my G25... and got instantly freaked out.... what to do what to do... it didn't fit... well.. it did fit.. but then i'd be sitting behind the wheel like a toddler would sit behind the wheel of a real car. So that was the point where i thought.. ok.. hold on while.. lets sleep over this... still the tabletop had to be finished, the shifter .. and finding a way to hang the wheel itself!... now i had messed around for about 5 hrs... and no.. i dont think i have that goodda skils.. or the measurements would have been perfect.. and the drilling.. and this and that... grinn
Wink

Day two:

I had advised an idea for the Shifterunit involving a hinge.... but had no clue about the wheel itself... at least.. was thinking of making a shelfholder to attach a plank to which would seat the Wheel.. but how.. so best to go to the DIY shop and just roam around to get idea's just by looking at stuff.
Found a 3screw hinge(6 total.. lol 3 per hingeplate)... little hookset... i needed a little plank to suppor the shifter, as i would use a block attached to that plank underneath to which i could secure the hinge.. sounds difficult.. lol.. it isn't .. just dont bruise yerself trying to screw the stuff up..
As i was looking for the hinge (i musthave looked over it about 6 times, cuzz a clerk pointed me to them where i had been looking for that many times already.. huh?!) i layed my eyes on a bookholder... or whatchamacall it... a bookSHELFholder.... really simple.. needs just one screw in the wall.. well.. in this case.. the tablestructure.. hmm.. SORTED!
Then i went on to the back of the store to find me some personell who'd cut some boards to the size i needed... ALL FREE! as customers normall take the entire BOARD and the scraps are free! woohoo.. finally a break.. hehe So back home it was and fiddling again.. due to the screw in the top of the tablestructure the tabletop (the new white piece of board) was a bit wonky .. so i looked where it wasn't level.. dropped a screw in there and adjusted how far the screw went in untill the tabletop(board) would be straight and level and not wobbly.
Held up the G25 attached to the plank to "feel" what the untimate hieght of the plank should look like.. thereby knowing where to put the bookshelfholders and calculating back the exact (yah.. right) point where to drop those two screws in on which you hook the bookshelfholders... if they feel wobbly, just screw the screws tighter untill it's a solid fit! clip it on, jab it down.... ***sigh of relief***... i dropped the plank with the G25 on the holders and had a seat to find out how much forward or backward i'd want the wheel. About half way was good enough. so drew some lines... drilled some holes screwed em up with much too bigga screws..(yes they stick out.. and no at that point i didn't care anymore as it was nearly finished!) screwed the whole thing together.. hook the bookshelfholders, JAB.. SOrted! Now for the tricky part, the shifter.. i knew the hinge had to fit perfect around the corner of that "paw" (tablefoot) and the alignment had to be perfect to stop from tilting.. drew everything up, drilled the holes.. screws in.. .. held some space in between the shifter and the paw.. unfortunately.. so those accurate measurements.. uhhuh.. (not!) had to be adjusted by a screw sitting in the side of the paw to correct the flaw.. hehe
put the little hook up.. re-fitted the hook (there was too much play in between) and now that's sorted.... i had myself a racingseat!

Now that you've lived throught this story the pictures are near the end.. hehe

But first a little tip upon working with wood: ALWAYS drill a hole before you put a screw in there... or else the wood will split on you! just dont drill a 10 cm hole for a 5 cm screw (diameters..) just do a testdrill when you start and fit a screw to see if you've used the right size drill for that particular screw.. yes.. i "screwed" up in this department.

That second day was only about 3 hrs of work.. so there you have it .. one basic racingseat that's nearly fitting to my 1.85 m and beerbelly.

It cost me around 90 euro's... one blister on my hand and some soggy knees. oh and 8 hrs of my life.. (what's in a day hay?)
Grin

Woof ~ WOof

PS: now the GF told me i was nuts.. in the morning you drive to work, then you drive a truck all day, then you drive back home.. only to DRIVE some more? you're driving me nuts!

Cool.
